A lot of Motrin.... One rewarding shirt

Ask him about the softball team he was on, and a smirk of pride will appear on his face as he tells you about the fun he had.
I'm really glad he decided to play this year and that he had such a great time.
And now he has the shirt.

Moss Roses Take Over- and a blight of a situation

Sadly we have been dealing with blight of some sort on our tomatoes.  I think the pounding rain, which we had a lot of this year,  made our careful watering worthless.  So some tomatoes are perfect.  Others, we will cut the spots off and eat anyways.  I read that it's not advised to can tomatoes with the spots because their pH may be changed, and so we will just eat a crap ton of fresh tomatoes.  No canning this year. Oh well.

I have canned bread and butter pickles, and I think I will make some refrigerator dills tomorrow.  I am loving the pole beans and picked enough for dinner tonight.  So rewarding!  We seem to have lots of little peppers, and they will hopefully be successful in a week or two.

Our front yard has gone crazy.  Apparently these plants don't mind pounding rain one bit!  My reappearing mum from last fall is HUGE.

The alssyum is HUGE also!  I was sure they would die three days after I planted them, but that wasn't the case!

The whole front bed is pretty active.  The mum at the far end is a more reasonable size and I like it there.  The crazy roses obviously need something to wrangle in the wildness.  I think I will head to the store to find something.  I think they need to grow UP instead of OUT EVERYWHERE.
I'm learning.

The moss roses, which always look nice in my front planters have been migrating.....

After weeding them forever, I decided to let them go in the back of the bed where nothing else will grow.  I think it's a good plan.

But they are also popping up everywhere.....

We are leaving the under the porch plants, but we are often removing them from the sidewalk cracks.

FINALLY my Morning Glories are growing, and have climbed all over my cone thingy.  They are blooming wonderful purple flowers and I love them.

This view of the front makes me happy minus two things.
1.The dirt patch along the house, which hopefully will be full of moss roses next year.
2. Our little tree on the end is quite brown.  I think he needs some plant food or something.  He has new growth though, so he's not dead yet!

Making Jam in the Mitten

We made it out blueberry picking.

Then jam making happened.  I love this process.

And the satisfaction of stocking the pantry with homemade jam.

And the memories made working together

Moment of the Week

Our household is still recovering from last weekend.
At least we have clean clothes again.
