Missing McMaths

Have you been confused by David writing the majority of the posts lately?  Usually I'm blabbing about something or another, but this past month has been a little different.  We have been in Michigan since a few days after Katie left South Dakota.  

 This is my brother's little girl....total sweetness.  I've been teaching her mama to quilt, and watching her smile and dance and follow Nathan around. (the baby not her mama) I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my sister in law.  Since she and my brother got hitched I've hardly been home,  I am very glad to have spent lots of time with her this trip... and I think she is going to be a really awesome quilter.  

 He has been spending lots of time with cousins.  Sometimes he just looks at me and says, "I want more cousins!"

(p.s.  those are little tiny bowling shoes in his size!  Made me squeak a little)

But growing super homesick.  Like crippling homesickness. So we are pointing our covered wagon west and heading home.  We were going to leave today, but due to a weather delay we shall be departing tomorrow instead.  Prayers will be greatly appreciated. 

 I would have been really upset about the delay, if it weren't so darn pretty...

So long to November, I'm glad another month is over with.  Looking forward to keeping Dave and everyone else, a little more in-touch with these previously missing McMaths....except for the next two days ya know, since we will be in the covered wagon, heading WEST!

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  We had a pretty good one here in the desert.  We all worked our long day and then most of us got off at noon and went to eat easily the best dinner I've had since I left home.  They served up a pretty good spread for all the troops here with lots of turkey roast beef and all the fixings.

This is just a small group of us in the chow hall, no! they did not serve champagne to us, that's just sparkling grape juice.

some guys grabbed their dinner to go so that they could eat it with their beers.  The only thing missing was football, which was playing the next morning here.  So sad that the lions lost, I really thought it was our year to win the Turkey.

"The week of the Fog"

Every day this week so far, we get at least a little bit of fog in the early morning.  This day was the worst of all.  It was so thick that you could swim your way through it.  It's pretty weird when you are driving around and know that these aircraft are 20 feet from you but can't see a single one untill you are right on top of it.

I hope everyone is gearing up for thanksgiving this week.  The people at the chow hall are planning quite a feast.  They had the stats posted of everything that they are preparing, the one that stood out the most was the amount of turkey they are cooking, somewhere around 10,000 pounds of the stuff will be served to us.

Happy thanksgiving everyone, and eat lots of good home cooked food for me.  And Teresa, I'm going to miss your sweet potato casserole, yumm!!

sandbox Salutations Wk 16 and 17

10 weeks left

it still seems like a lot, but compared to where we started, it is not that much.  everyone here is getting excited that we are almost down to single digits on the weeks, though we still all the Holidays to get through.  That will be the toughest part  for all of us.

Last week the "plus up" personnel and aircraft arrived.  WE now have even more jets to worry about but it is nice to have the extra personnel to take some of the workload as well.  it's kinda funny to see their enthusiasm and gung ho attitude.  All of the guys that have been here since the beginning are wondering how long that will last.  It seems so long ago that we arrived with the same type of mentality, now for most of us it's just going through the motions to get to the end.

well there is not much more to share, I just want to tell Nate and Teresa that I miss them a ton and can't wait to see them again.  Love you all and thank you for constant letters, e-mails and packages of encouragement and support.

Domo Arigato

We dropped off our last visitor this afternoon.  It has been an eventful eleven weeks of visits and sightseeing.  I'm pooped, but so thankful to everyone who came out to see us while we deal with David being deployed.  We still have a dozen weeks or so to go, but the past eleven have been a whirlwind!

The next person we pick up from a jet plane should be Dave.  

I'm hoping with our visit to Michigan and the holidays coming up, it will be a whirlwind still, and he will be home before I even know it!

That about sums up my Halloween.  Didn't have time to have a party or anything.  We got really busy at work right off the bat and pretty much did not leave the flight-line all night.  In Fact, most of my guys ate lunch on the flight-line as so did I.

I hope everyone else had a great halloween and had fun trick or treating.
