Have a great Labor Day

We have had a wet long weekend.  Seriously it has been raining for more than 2 weeks straight.  We are all loosing our minds.

Friday Dave played golf in a tournament.  It was raining when they were signing in, then it let up.  Thankfully, it held out until they were getting to one of the last holes.  He said it was super wet and muddy.  We saw a message on the commander access channel that some offbase roads are flooded.  Anyhow, Saturday we went to our friend's BBQ Potluck.  Catrina and Duane are both 100% Navajo. She served Native American food, and there were lots of other Native Americans there.  It was cool to hear them talking about their tribes and clans.   We stayed for a little bit then went over to our friends the Tionsons.  They are both Filipino.  OMG they had tons of Filipino food there.  I tried a few things... Man that stuff was different.

Today we didn't do much, I ran to the grocery for a few things.  I went to the Post Office, Nathan's big Christmas gift arrived.  It may sound ridiculous to get it now, but man, nothings worse than a Christmas far from family and non of your online purchases arrive on time.  Its the pits.  So I already got that taken care of.

I bought a shopping cart seat cover today from a woman onbase using the online yardsale.  Are you part of one?   They have one for almost every town or county.  Its cool, you join the group, this is a Yahoo Group.  Then people post things they want to sell or people put out requests for things or even info.  Like on the Misawa virtual yardsale people ask or driving directions to places or restaurants.  Well, I needed a shopping cart cover, they were super pricey online, plus shipping and waiting for it to arrive had me all frustrated... so I put a post that I was looking for one, and someone had one!  It was cheap and I didn't pay postage and I got it 1 day after I posted the request!  I think  I might like craigslist when we mover back to the states, I know my cousin has lots of luck on there.

Well, enjoy your Monday off!  Then summer is over!!!  And Fall will be here soon, then winter then we will MOVE.

Tomorrow begins the long weekend

I am so excited its already Thursday.  Dave has Friday and Monday off,  making this a four day weekend.  Dave is supposed to golf tomorrow in a tournament... but its supposed to pour tomorrow.  I am guessing they will still play though.  Saturday our friends are having a BBQ... I'm going to take Taco Salad.
We are still waiting for teeth...  Nathan is really working hard at crawling.  But, he can only go in reverse.  He has started wearing some 6-9 clothing since more than 1/2 of his 3-6 is too small.   We put the big carseat in the car.  We just can't carry him around in the carrier anymore.  It will be easier to carry him to the car.  We bought a nice little stroller, so we can have one to keep in the car and one to keep in the house for walks.  Its a real drag when we get somewhere and realize we forgot the stroller at home.

I posted a new video, and a few new photos in the August album

Tuesday- JIM'S BIRTHDAY!

The Halloween costumes arrived the other day.  They fit and are really awesome.  I can't wait until Halloween.  Nathan's is so cute!

It is still rainy and dreary and cold here. I saw in the forecast it might get to 70 on Thursday.  That's something to look forward to.

Dave had a full circle moment today.  His recruiter is stationed here in Misawa now!  Isn't that funny?  Well, today Dave had his recruiter in one of the classes he was teaching today!!!  Isn't that crazy?

I cleaned the turtle tank today.  It looks lovely in there, and the turtles seem to be enjoying their freshly cleaned home.  I went to the Post Office this morning, then to the BX to buy David's birthday present, then I had to run to the commissary for spinach.  I  am making Greek Pasta Bake tonight.  I am finally back on top of everything around here, and it feels good

 Happy Birthday to Jim!!!

Saturday already??

Last week went by pretty quick for us.  I can't believe its Saturday already.  Dave is helping his friend move today.  Not sure how long he will be gone.  I will find something to do.

It rained almost all week, talk about a drag.  It only reached 60 most days.  Feels like summer is taking a vaca.

The base was having a really fun fundraiser the past couple of weeks.  They have three costumes.... A baby, telletubie and a 80's basketball player afro and all.  People donate a dollar to vote for who they want to wear one of these embarrassing costumes.  The three people that were nominated the most have to take a lap around the club at lunch time next week.  I heard they raised 1900 bucks!!

I think their might be a festival outside the gates this weekend.  Maybe we will check it out later when Dave returns.  Next weekend they will have the Labor Day Beach Bash.  Dave's birthday is a week later.  The airshow is in a few weeks.  The salmon festival will be held a week or two after that.  Dave said I have to get in and catch a salmon with my hands this time. I'm nervous.... Remember this?.....

That will be me this year!!

Anyways, the point is, there are lots of things to look forward to!!  I want to go back to the gorge when the fall colors are out, and walk around again.  Then Halloween will be here, then Thanksgiving , then Christmas, then our big move!!

Start of a new week

We had a pretty boring weekend.  Stayed pretty close to home.  Watched the Olympics.(Which was pretty exciting)

We took Nathan to the little park nearby and let him sit of Dave's lap on the swings.  We tried one of the baby swings because Nate is pretty good at sitting up.  He seemed a little concerned when we put him in.  It was cute.  I will post a video.  I already posted a video of Nathan playing with his sock.  Check for a few new photos in the Aug album too.

Nothing exciting is going on this week.  Although, tonight I am making Cuban Pork Chops which are one of Dave's favs.  So that should spice up his week, literally because they have a lot of cumin.

Labor Day is only 2 weeks away... How are you going to spend the rest of your summer?  In the pool, by the lake, in a tent?  Whats going on in America?  Everyone is quiet.

You all will have to wait

I ordered Nathan's halloween costume.  Thanks for all the votes.  I'm not telling which costume I got him though so you will  have to wait!!   Oh the suspense eh?  Haha.  I ordered costumes for Dave and me too.  Oh the EXCITEMENT!

I added a few tickers to our profile page.  We have already started some Christmas shopping!!  We usually start this early since we have to do all the online shopping, and wait for things to arrive in the mail.

Aug 15

Lots of fun things have been going on around here.  Nate is a rolling maniac.  He is always going one way or the other.  Dave finds Nathan asleep on his tummy most mornings now.  Once Nate gets on his tummy he scoots himself backwards.  Its funny, he gets frustrated because he is gets farther from the toy he was playing with and he doesn't know why.  He is eating mixed cereal now, and we just started peaches.  He is getting much better at putting the pacifier in himself.  It has been a couple of weeks since I have had to put it in for him during the night.  I'm not sure if he puts it back in himself or just doesn't wake up for it anymore.  But I appreciate a full night of uninterrupted sleep.

We had the Malota Family over for dinner last night. I made some yummy pork chops.  The marinade made them super tasty.  It is 1/4 c. honey, 1/4 c. lemon juice, 2 T soy sauce, and 2 garlic cloves(minced, but I used 1 t. crushed from a jar).  Just toss 4 thick pork loin chops in for 4-8 hours, then grill them.  YUM

It has been sort of cool here lately, only getting up in the mid 70s but with lots of sunshine.  It has been delightful.

I believe the assignments to Korea have come out, and Dave hasn't got any, so, whew, we should be moving back to the states... now we just wait some more to find out where.

Our Turtles

We have got two new pets to ease the loneliness of not having our dogs living with us right now.  TURTLES!  They are really cute, and they don't bark or eat q-tips from the trash can.   They don't really take the place of Wendy, but they are fun to watch and take care of.  Dave sort of started acting like a 8 year old boy when we were getting ready to buy the turtles.  I wish you could have seen his face once we got them home and in their tank.  You could tell he was really excited.

Our only problem is we can't think of any names for these little turtle.  Please Please give us some ideas.

Nate loves his toes

Nathan has been so fun!  He has his toes in his mouth all the time, and he is always laughing.  He call roll himself to his side and usually sleeps on his side now.  He can almost get himself all the way over from his back to his tummy.  He just hasn't got his arm out of the way to completely flip.

He has mastered carrots, squash and sweet potatoes.  Yesterday we started bananas.  He likes it all!!

I returned Jackie to Tokyo today.  We rode the train down had lunch then once she checked in I rode the train back to Misawa.  She got to see lots of cool stuff in Tokyo and around where we live.

Nebuta

We went to the Nebuta Festival tonight.  Saturday and Sunday were rainy so we decided to go on a weekday instead.  It worked out just fine.  The floats in the parade were really cool.  It was a great experience.

I blogged a few days ago but it disappeared

I blogged a few days ago when we arrived home from Tokyo, but I don't know what happened to it.  Anyhow, we did and saw a lot in Tokyo during our 2 days there.  It was HOT and humid there, and we sweated buckets.  We saw the Imperial Palace, Ginza, Senso-ji Temple, Meiji Shrine, and Tokyo Tower.  We rode the subway to get around, which was a little tricky with the baby.  But we definitely got the Japan experience in Tokyo, especially since our hotel room was very small.  I will post a video of the bathroom in the hotel room.  It was crazy.  It was so small we couldn't open our suitcase on the floor, we had to open it on the bed.

Since we have been in Misawa we have taken Jackie to lots of stores, and to the fish market.  We went to the Clan Village, and to the air museum.  Tonight we are taking the train to Aomori for the Nebuta Festival.  We should have lots of fun pictures to post tomorrow!!
