We are gearing up to begin our new school year on Monday, and I thought since it was clean and tidy I would give you a little tour of our third grade classroom.
Most things are the same, but a few things have changed....
We still have the same posters, although we added a multiplication chart near the end of last year.
Obviously with just Nate we don't need a table this large, but for crafts it's great, and I use it after school and on weekends for sewing. So the size is ideal.
You can see Nate has books in both cubes on his side of the table.
The right side just has books for free reading time.
The left side has more books, but many are nonfiction resource books, and we also store his science journal and daily calendar binder here so he has easy reach.
He also has a little box there with commonly needed items. A pencil sharpener, tissues, a bigger eraser, and glue stick. He will probably keep his favorite pencil of the moment in there too, but you never can tell what will strike his fancy, so I left a pencil suggestion out. Plus we have a lot on the center of the table.
But usually his pencil of the moment will be from one of the many 'fun' pencils, we also have a good supply of fun erasers.
We are still using the same calendar, which I'm so glad it's held up all these years. Every year I think about getting a new one for fun, but it's good that I have resisted because ours is just fine.
In the corner of our classroom we have our work boxes. Last year we tried this method, and it was fantastic! Nate loved being able to see exactly what was left and he was really motivated being able to see how much he had already done.
We have our maps on the wall to the left, and this year I had the small dry erase board moved over here so Nate can use it more.
Over on the right side of the room we have a cupboard full of fun stuff....
It houses our microscope, puzzles, play-doh and lots of games and manipulatives.
We have lots of math stuff!
And lots of thinking games and puzzles. Nate loves them!
Next to our cabinet is our art cart.
I've always kept things up or tucked away, and we forget to get crafty!
Hopefully having the cart out and visible will help.
Although, I did have a long talk about which things I expect him to ask permission first....PAINTS!
I've always enrolled Nate in art classes, but to be honest he didn't like them... but at least if he wants to draw or color he can easily access the supplies now.
