Deadwood

We drove through the hills to Deadwood this weekend. We had no clue there would be so much to see. We are HUGE fans of the HBO show, and we were darn right giddy to see Seth Bullock's hotel where his original hardware store once was. Or to see where Wild Bill was shot, or where they caught the s.o.b. that shot him. And beyond excitement was our buffalo lunch at the site of the original Gem Theater! I took bites of my buffalo french dip, while my mind was racing with thoughts like, "geez right here is where Al bought dope from Woo, and where Al's whore turned tricks, and where people were killed! It was so exciting!
Here is Seth's hotel! I couldn't bear to go inside. I need to spend a whole day in Deadwood. We only had a small amount of time, and I thought I might burst if I went in. We were REALLY excited!
I knew that Deadwood was burned in a fire in 1879 and had been rebuilt, but I didn't realize it was rebuilt before 1900 so everything is still really cool and the old brick buildings had me looking everywhere at all of the details. I was really fascinated.
This is the alley along the Bullock Hotel, the shutters gave me chills. Are they originals, or do they make those things look old and original? I have to find out before I go again.
The original site of Saloon 10 where Wild Bill was shot and killed while playing poker.
Main street of Deadwood

I really cannot explain the giddy and rush of excitement that was pulsing through us. Really the only way I can try is to say, now I sort of understand why Trekkie act like total idiots because they love star trek to much. If they had conventions in Deadwood where you dressed like your favorite deadwood person I may or may not start piecing a Calamity Jane get up together.(minus the STDs)

Fog Freeze

Last night a banner ran along the screen while we were watching SNL that said Fog Freeze Warning. Dave and I wondered what is a fog freeze? It had been really foggy all day, and snow was expected, but what exactly is a fog freeze?
We stepped out the door this morning, and we got it! We didn't get much snow, just a dusting really, but the trees and the grass was covered in a magical frost. Must be because that fog had frozen eh?

We LOVE Rapid City!

Moment of the Week

Please pardon me for totally forgetting yesterday was Friday.

Exploring downtown Rapid.

Nate didn't get why we wanted to walk right up to all of these guys. He was a bit uneasy around them.

Moment of the Week

We now live in South Dakota!
The Black Hills!
We are considering the house and the work that needs to be done. The inspection wasn't horrible, but it might be a little too much for us to do. We will see.
