Last week as we busted ass to finish painting we saw the 'little snow possible' in the forecast and rushed to get things done.
So we finally finished. As the week went on the little snow started to sound a little more significant.
After I had picked everything from my garden, green or ripe, the forecast just kept getting worse.
Thursday I got this alert. A blizzard warning. We never get those. We get two feet of snow but its not a blizzard warning.
It rained and rained Thursday night. We knew temps would drop and it would change to snow. This is how it looked Friday morning when we woke up... a little dusting of white.
The windows were all slushed up from the rain turned snow and the wind that had plastered it to every window......
As Friday went on the snow kept flying. And I mean flying because it was blowing at 50mph all day.... and that slushy snow on our still leaved trees started taking its toll. Almost all day we heard thunder and saw lightening as the snow just kept coming.
By 7 pm on Friday we had about a foot of snow on the ground and no power. We went to bed with extra quilts on the beds.....
When we woke up Saturday morning we couldn't see out any of our windows. We opened the front door and found this.
Tons of snow, and very large drifts.
Our porch was covered with snow...
The drifts in the backyard were really impressive. Almost all of our four foot fence had drifts up and over the fence.
Our trees were all stressed.
Everything was white. The skinny window to the right in this photo shows well why we couldn't see out any of our windows.
We quickly put everything from the fridge in the snow. We still had no power, so I made oatmeal for breakfast.
Later in the afternoon the wind finally died down a little bit so we went back outside to take a look.... see that little sliver of blue sky in the distance? That was the where the blizzard ended.
This is our next door neighbors home.
This is our neighbor across the street. His trees fared much better than ours.
Here is our home.
And our side yard.
This is Dave when he went down trying to walk in the drifts. To the left is our tree, our tree that is a loss.
The front of our home.
You can see our driveway and front yard were pretty deep with drifts.
Our front walk.
Thankfully I talked Dave into clearing our windows. I couldn't stand it anymore.
Our front porch light.
View from our kitchen window.
Nate loved watching Dave jump over the drifts from one side of the fence to the other... and died laughing when Dave just rolled over the deck railing.
I'm not sure how the lilacs will bounce back. I'm hoping everything will bounce back. We lost so many large tree limbs from all of our ash trees. We are fairly heartbroken.
We spent all day yesterday without power. We were bored enough to go open the garage door halfway while we ran the car and watched a movie on our DVD player and I charged my dead phone while we watched. The burners on our stove were the only heat we had. Thankfully after 27 hours the power came back on. Dave and I were just getting into bed. It was so wonderful to sleep in a warm room.
Today. The sun is shining. Its in the 50s. Everything is melting quickly.
This is our tree that had it the worst. We are pretty sure we need to chop the entire tree down.
But I'm grateful for the sight of our cement. Even though our path has a lot of melting to do. I'm hoping we have some actual fall weather for a while. And if our winter is littered with more big storms we will get through those and no doubt they will be weak compared to this blizzard.
