Outside Work Begins

Spring has been delightful lately!  The lilacs are blooming, my favorite outdoor scent!  I was mowing part of the yard for Dave while he finished something up, and I was so happy I ended up mowing near the lilacs because they sure do smell nice!

 We've started our first project.  We needed to replace the bottom two rows of siding on the west side of our house.  There was a learning curve to taking them off, so we ended up doing three rows!  But coming in around 100 bucks this project was a good DIY bargain!

We missed the chance to start tomatoes and peppers inside this year since we were gone for David's eye surgery.  That's no big deal I know a great place that sells organic plants.  Today I put all of the seeds in though!

It's always so exciting to get them in!  I can't wait to see how things grow!

The bleeding heart is making me super happy.

Moments

With the excitement of having Grandma and Grandpa McMath in town there are lots of moments this week!

We fit school into this busy week.  Now we have just ten days left of 2nd grade!

We have a robin sitting on eggs on our back deck.

We went to Reptile Gardens.  It was a fun visit.

 We made a visit to Crazy Horse!

Ready for company.

Crappy weather all week!

Lazy days.

The dogs all got a bath.

We did an entire week of school.

I got a quilt assembled and quilted.

The sun is supposed to return on Sunday.

Moment of the Week

This week was pretty rough in our household.

Nate had to do the second grade standardized test.

I turned the workboxes into test break boxes.

We only did testing during the time that we normally do school, so from 830-1130.  We did 45 minutes of testing then took 15 minute breaks.  It worked well, we finished most of the test on Monday and Tuesday. 

On Wednesday we had just one section left.  By the end Nate was a zombie..

But it turned out it wasn't the test, he has some sort of virus.  I think he has strep throat.  By midday on Wednesday he was burning up with fever.  He spent Thursday and Friday on the sofa fighting that nasty fever.  Poor kiddo.  

But he did do very well on the test.  

I was surprised by some things in a good way and surprised that he didn't know other parts.  

But since we didn't do any preparation this was a true test of what he knows.  

Now we can get back to regular second grade and hopefully stay healthy so we can finish sometime soon!

Moments of the Week

Since returning home things have been pretty calm.

We've been trying to catch up on spring yard things, cooking, cleaning, regular routine stuff.

It's been tiring.  

I've taken a power nap each day for real. 

Yesterday I took a two hour nap after karate.

 When Dave got home from his first day back to work he passed out too.

And we had no trouble going to bed at the normal time.

We've been getting back to a regular routine after what feels like FOREVER!

We finished this book today at school.

Nate loved it!

Now we only have six boxes a day!

I have thirty minutes while the wash runs on the sixth floor so I am checking in.

Dave's surgery went very well. 

He is doing great!

He will have one last appointment on Monday then we will head home.

 

 

 



Moments of the Week

We spent this week getting back to life after our bout with influenza.

The dogs thought we were still on lazy mode.

We got back to school. 

 After missing two weeks it was time we got back to work!  

We finished our poem book!

Nate finished up his botany presentation.  

He gave an oral presentation.  I thought it was mean of me to make him do this, but Erin approved and said she thought it was very important that kids start giving presentations this early.  

Nate did a great job, and Dave was very impressed.  I was too!

Now our homeschool load is much lighter.  

We are done with science and history, and have finished our poem book and Daily 6 Trait Writing.   

This leaves lots of time for getting outside to enjoy the nice weather!
